Perfect For You Ceremonies was founded by John Kennedy, who drew inspiration from a simple, heartfelt idea: he and his wife often say that while they’re not perfect, they are perfect for each other. That sentiment became the foundation of his business, reflecting the belief that every couple deserves a ceremony that feels deeply personal, meaningful, and uniquely theirs.

Based in Summerville, South Carolina, John serves the greater Charleston area, helping couples craft wedding ceremonies that capture their love stories, personalities, and traditions. He started Perfect For You Ceremonies part-time in 2022, listing on Wedding Wire, The Knot, and Facebook groups to reach prospective clients. The first year was slow, with only three weddings, but John used the experience to learn, refine his approach, and understand the needs of couples looking for something personal and unique.

A big turning point came in January 2023, when he participated in a large wedding show. There, John learned how to present himself effectively to prospective couples and make a lasting impression. By the end of that year, he officiated 27 weddings, and in 2024 he reached 35, the maximum he could comfortably handle part-time. In 2025, John took time off to travel after selling his house in Connecticut, performing only 10 weddings that year. After relocating to Summerville in 2026 following his retirement, he is now establishing Perfect For You Ceremonies as a full-time endeavor, aiming to connect with more couples and bring even more personalized, memorable wedding experiences to the Charleston area. With his experience, personality, and dedication, John continues to build a business that couples can trust to make their most important day truly unforgettable.

About The Owner

Born and raised in Rhode Island, John has had a diverse career journey. He studied accounting at Bryant University and spent 30 years as an examiner for the National Credit Union Administration, with stints managing a 7-Eleven district and running an embroidery franchise along the way. Now retired, John also works part-time as a ghost tour guide for Ghosts and Gravestones. Married to his second wife Cheryl for ten years, John has a blended family with two daughters (25 and 18) and two stepchildren (29 and 26). Outside of work, he enjoys reading, movies, acting, and even being a radio DJ. His decades of community theater experience make him comfortable speaking in front of audiences, a skill that comes in handy as he officiates weddings. John credits his personal experiences and supportive relationship with his wife for shaping his ability to connect with couples on a deeply meaningful level.

What sets Perfect For You Ceremonies apart is John’s ability to create deeply personal experiences for each couple. He takes the time to learn their story, personalities, and what makes their relationship unique, crafting ceremonies that feel intimate, authentic, and memorable. John’s favorite part of owning his business is being part of such an important day in a couple’s life. His funny, caring, and engaging personality shines through, helping couples and guests feel at ease while adding joy and warmth to every ceremony. He also enjoys guiding couples and coaching family or friends who are taking on officiant roles themselves. Since relocating to Summerville, building awareness has been a challenge, but John is focused on growing his presence in the Charleston area. His goal for 2026 is to officiate at least 20 weddings, with the ultimate vision of making Perfect For You Ceremonies a full-time endeavor, performing 50 or more weddings per year and bringing joy to even more couples

While he has mostly built Perfect For You Ceremonies independently, he previously collaborated with a group of officiants in Connecticut, exchanging tips, sharing referrals, and learning from others through a Facebook group.
